The purchase of renewable energy is a key instrument for companies in the transformation towards climate neutrality. In this context, guarantees of origin (GOs) are playing an increasingly important role. This is because they fulfil elementary functions at various interfaces in the integrated value chain in energy industry. On the one hand, as a qualitative value component, for the partial refinancing of renewable capacities and, on the other hand, as a criterion in the sustainability reporting of companies required by the EU. In addition, granular guarantees of origin could also contribute to system and market integration of renewable energies. The panel of the "Market Initiative for Renewable Energies" at the smarter E 2024 will discuss with representatives from companies, the energy, industry and the financial sector what prospects the regulatory and technical development of the guarantee of origin system offers for the energy transition and how the interdependencies within chains can be strengthened and utilised to a greater extent for the fast expansion of renewable energies.
