Power Grid 2050 – How we Achieve the Energy and Climate Policy

The smarter E Podcast Episode 26 | November 12, 2020 | Language: German

Both Germany and the European Union are striving for a climate-neutral energy and economic system by the middle of the century. Expansion of the transmission grid in line with demand is therefore a key element in the success of the energy turnaround. But what do the goals mean for the electricity grid? Are the measures planned so far sufficient to achieve a climate-neutral energy system by 2050, and if not, what is the problem?

We are talking about this today with Christian Schorn, head of plant operations at TransnetBW GmbH.

About Christian Schorn and TransnetBW

TransnetBW GmbH operates the electricity transmission network in Baden-Württemberg. With this transport network, the company secures the power supply in the region, in Germany and in Europe. This year, TransnetBW published a forward-looking study entitled "Stromnetz2050" (Power Grid2050), which shows the energy system in Germany with a finalized energy turnaround.

Mr. Schorn has been responsible for plant operation at TransnetBW since 2017. Prior to that he held various leading positions in the EnBW Group. He was also active in national German standardization organizations and associations such as VDE FNN in Berlin and VDE DKE in Frankfurt.
