Tenant Electricity: Opportunities and Hurdles of Community Building Supply

The smarter E Podcast Episode 183 | July 18, 2024 | Language: German

Supplying apartment buildings with solar power from their own roofs still lags far behind the available potential in Germany. Many tenants and residents of apartment buildings would like to purchase green electricity - and owners are also open to the idea. However, the tenant electricity model previously laid down in the EEG proved to be too complicated to implement. With the shared building supply, there are now new options for apartment buildings.

Will this be the breakthrough for the PV electricity turnaround? What potential does it really offer? And what hurdles still exist? We talk about this with Julian Schulz, Co-Founder and Managing Director of the Stuttgart-based start-up Metergrid.

Timeline:

  • 01:14 Why is the PV potential of apartment buildings in Germany still lying unused? What are the biggest hurdles?
  • 07:41 Metergrid is a start-up in the field of tenant electricity – what needs are your services aimed at, what is the background to your offer?
  • 09:53 How can tenants convince their landlords of such a model?
  • 14:52 In Germany, community building supply was introduced with the adoption of the Solar Package I. What advantages does this have over the tenant electricity model?
  • 17:29 Solar Package I also extended the tenant electricity model to the commercial sector. What developments can be expected here?
