The deployment of smart meters is ongoing. They are crucial devices, notably to enable dynamic price contracts. In addition, a multitude of sub-meters and dedicated measurement devices could complement them to enable a truly consumer-centric transition.
The revised Electricity Market Design is introducing via EU law these new assets to unleash the flexibility of some behind-the-meter (BTM) decentralised energy resources (DERs) both through explicit and implicit activations.
The webinar will present use cases for both sub-meters and dedicated measurement devices, clarify their distinguishing features and different use.

Marion Malafosse is Head of Policy at smartEn, the European business association integrating the digital and decentralised solutions of the clean energy transition. Prior to joining smartEn in 2021, she worked for seven years in DG Energy in the European Commission on policies related to flexibility and consumer empowerment.
Marcia Poletti is currently Head of European System Change at Octopus Energy, and a Non-Executive Director at Eelpower, a UK grid-scale storage company. In both these roles she is focused on driving change to deliver the energy transition as quickly and cheaply as possible.
Marcia has deep government and strategy experience, with a career spanning energy consulting at McKinsey to energy transition policy for the UK Government. She joined Octopus Energy in 2022 from OFGEM, UK’s Energy Regulator, where she was Strategy Deputy Director. She has a B.E EngSci (Hons) and an MBA from INSEAD.
Michael is the Managing Director of EMEA & APAC at Sense, chartered with expanding the company’s global footprint into Europe, Middle East, and Asia Pacific.
Michael brings over 20 years of experience in consulting, strategy and leadership in energy and climate tech. Michael began his career with Accenture before serving as Head of Strategy for two of the UK’s largest energy retailers, British Gas and SSE. He then built and led SSE’s Smart Home business unit, “Home Intelligence”.
Before joining Sense, Michael was Managing Director at Verv, a climate tech scale-up backed by British Gas and Innogy. Michael holds an MBA from the University of Warwick as well as a BA in History from Birmingham University.
Barry Lynham is Managing Director of Knauf Energy Solutions, where he is focused on the low carbon transformation of the building stock.
Previously, Barry was Group Director for Strategy and Communication at Knauf Insulation, where he led Knauf Insulation’s public affairs, regulatory affairs, sustainability, corporate communications and building science teams as well as being Secretary of the Board of Knauf Insulation.
Barry has in the past also been involved with a number of organisations including as President of Fire Safe Europe and as a Board Member of EURIMA (European Insulation Manufacturers Association), EUASE (the European Alliance to Save Energy) and EuroACE (the European Alliance of Companies for Energy Efficiency in Buildings). Barry is currently on the Board of SMARTEN the European business association integrating the consumer-driven solutions of the clean energy transition.
Before joining Knauf Insulation, Barry spent just under a decade working as a public affairs consultant in Brussels. Previous to this, Barry worked at the European Commission in Brussels where he was responsible for drafting legislation on CO2 from cars. Barry holds a degree in English and French law and is married with two children.
Philipp Rechberger studied energy technology at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria and continued to work as a research assistant. Since 2022 he is responsible for regulatory requirements for the solutions of the Business Unit Solar Energy in the systems technology department at Fronius International.
